Not all pet food manufacturers use the same standards or language. So what do we mean when we say ‘fresh regional ingredients’?
Making the World’s best pet food means sourcing the World’s finest ingredients, so Champion Petfoods the manufacturer of ORIJEN and ACANA, only work with suppliers who uphold their strong commitment to quality, food safety and sustainability. These standards for suppliers are more thorough than what’s required of those who provide ingredients to the human food industry. Suppliers adhere to rigorous quality standards, on-site visits and risk assessments, so you can feel confident your pets are getting only the best.
So what about fresh – that’s obvious right?
When we say fresh we mean the only form of preservation is refrigeration and ingredients arrived from farm to kitchen within three days.
Other manufacturers may use terms such as ‘freshly prepared’, ‘deboned’ or ‘dehydrated’. These are very different things.
So, what is the difference between fresh and raw ingredients?
Not all ingredients are available year round. At Champion, raw is simply fresh meat frozen at peak season to lock in the goodness. No chemicals or preservatives.
The supply chain
Champion Petfoods have built a supply chain with farmers, ranchers and fishermen that they know and trust, featuring exclusive ingredients and standards. This means they can source the best free-run poultry and eggs, whole wild-caught fish, ranch-raised red meats, farm-fresh fruits and vegetables and regionally-grown botanicals.
But it doesn’t end there, these ingredients are received into purpose-built kitchens with commercial scale coolers. Proprietary cooking processes are used to preserve the maximum nutrients, including steam cooking with no water added and specialised drying techniques.
With a reputation of trust spanning more than 30 years, ORIJEN and ACANA give you peace of mind and keeps your cherished companion happy, healthy, and strong.
